Saltpond, Jan. 26, GNA - The Mfantseman District Assembly on Monday elected Mr. Oscar Kweku Appiah, Assembly Member for the Edumadze/Twafo Electoral area and Mr. Kofi Aikins, Assembly Member for Ekumfi Essarkyir Electoral Area as its representatives on the Central Regional Electoral College for the election of the Region's representative on the Council of State.

Mr. Appiah assured the members that they would be worthy ambassadors of the Assembly on the Electoral College.

The contestants for the Region's representation on the Council of State were expected to file their nominations at Cape Coast on 25th and 26th January 2005 for the elections to be held on February 8, 2005. In another development the assembly has decided to involve members in endorsing applications from people from their areas who wanted to access the Poverty Alleviation Fund.

Mr. Anthony Adjei Kusi, Presiding Member, said by involving Assembly Members they would be committed to ensuring the repayment of the loans.

The decision was taken after Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur Acting District Chief Executive announced that out of 1.69 billion cedis given out from 1998 when it was instituted only 137,835,233 cedis has been recovered.

The members expressed concern about the high rate of default and said there was nothing they could do now since they did not know the debtors.
