Ekumfi Eyisam (C/R) Aug. 18 GNA - The Mike Hammah (MiHa) Education Fund, has since its inception, in a year, assisted 150 needy students and apprentices to continue their education at the vocational, secondary and tertiary levels, at the cost of GHC55,000.
The Manager of the fund, Mr Robert Quartey, made this known to the Ghana News Agency, in Winneba on Wednesday.
He said after the successful implementation of the fund in the Effutu Municipality, the authorities have decided to extend the facility to the Ekumfi Traditional area to help brilliant but needy children to acquire higher education.
Mr Quartey said on Tuesday, August 17, this year, he met with the acting President of the Ekumfi Traditional Area, Nana Mpream V, and informed him and the chiefs and people of the area of the decision of MiHa to extend the fund to Ekumfi.
He said a substantial amount had been budgeted for the Ekumfi Programme and appealed to brilliant but needy children in the area to submit their applications to the local office that had been established.
MiHa's activities are in line with President Mills' Better Ghana Agenda and the government's efforts to promote education, the manager said.
According to Mr Quartey, the fund would be officially launched in the Ekumfi Traditional Area, in September, as part of activities marking the first anniversary celebration of MiHa.
Mr Quartey said MiHa generates its funds from corporate bodies, well-wishers in education, and philanthropists and, therefore, appealed for more support from such bodies to assist many needy students.
The Acting President expressed his gratitude to the authorities of the fund for the good idea to extend the facility to his people and promised to cooperate with them to ensure its successful implementation.
The Mike Hammah Education Trust fund was established on 19 September 2009, by Mike Hammah, MP for Effutu and Minister of Transport, to offer financial support to needy but brilliant children in the Effutu and its surrounding communities.
