The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, is advocating for a more efficient method of sending domestic talent abroad.

According to him, the manner in which professionals are currently leaving the country because of the state of the economy is far from ideal.

John Mahama made the statement at a town hall meeting in Accra town on Monday, August 12, 2024.

He stated his wish for a better-organized procedure that guarantees a more efficient exchange of value, even though he acknowledged the significance of migration.

"Migration itself is not a bad thing, but it must be organized migration. If you look at countries like the Philippines, they have organized migration. So what they do is that they give their young people skills training in nursing, home care, and in so many areas. They organize and export them to other countries. You know how much the Philippines make every year from organized migration—30 billion dollars a year. And so migration of professionals is not entirely a bad thing, but it must happen in an organised manner," he said.

He thinks that the government ought to communicate with other nations that require surplus labour temporarily.

The former president is confident that by using this approach, Ghanaians taking part in these programs will return with enhanced knowledge and expertise.
