The parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, in the Greater Region, Mike Oquaye Jnr, has declared he possesses the charisma and all the qualities to transform the fortunes of Ghana's largest constituency.

Speaking at the inauguration of a robust campaign team on September 1, 2024, ahead of the 2024 general elections, Mr. Oquaye described himself as the new wave of change for the area, poised to help end the eight-year governance cycle.

The event, overseen by the constituency chairman, Robert Osei Bonsu featured a gathering of current and former NPP parliamentarians, members of the Council of Elders, party executives, and enthusiastic supporters.

In his address to the party faithful, Mr. Oquaye called for unity and a concerted effort to conduct a door-to-door campaign, in which he highlighted the approach will secure votes for the party to achieve its winning momentum.

The parliamentary candidate claimed that although both presidential candidates of the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have served as vice presidents, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has remained untainted by corruption scandals.

Mike Oquaye therefore admonished the electorates not to overlook Dr. Bawumia's integrity, which he said voting him out in the 2024 general election will bring future regrets to the Ghanaians.

"Let me remind Ghanaians that he [Dr Bawumia] hasn't been implicated in any corruption scandals. Without any such misconduct of being politically corrupt indicates he has the potential to lead Ghana and Ghanaians will regret if he is not elected," Mr. Oquaye said.

He then compared the NPP’s good governance to the NDC, highlighted the NPP's achievements over the past eight years, and urged that it is important to retain the New Patriotic Party to break the eight-year political cycle and continue serving Ghanaians.

He promised to prioritize the Dome Kwabenya constituency's urgent needs, noting that he has already begun addressing these concerns, despite not yet being elected.

He noted that key areas such as issues of security, health, education, provision of social amenities, and a good road network are what he will ensure the constituency is well-equipped with when given the mandate to represent the constituents in parliament.

"Your health is my concern. This is why I’ve already initiated the registration of 31,000 constituents with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) within two weeks. This should demonstrate my dedication to Dome Kwabenya," he said.

Mr. Oquaye also announced plans to install over 6,000 streetlights across the constituency before December to enhance visibility and reduce crime.

"Roads will be fixed. I’ll lobby continuously and keep engaging with the road minister to make this happen," he added.

He also identified that the constituency has the potential to deliver significant votes, hence appealing to party members for extra effort and intensifying campaign strategy to secure victory for the NPP.

"I urge you to engage in door-to-door campaigns and vote for the NPP," he charged the party faithful.

He also recalled that opposition parties encounter diverse challenges and cautioned the party supporters to overlook internal conflicts and strive for unity within the party.

Mr. Oquaye underscored the importance of respect and unity, encouraging members to join campaign teams and actively canvass for votes, ensuring that the party's message reaches every voter.

Mike Oquaye Jnr before gaining the nod to represent the constituency floored former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo in NPP’s parliamentary primaries.

He defeated the former MP on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in a contest described as a blow to the incumbent MP having amassed 1194 votes while the MP then secured 328 ballots.
