Miklin Hotel donates 100 bags of cement to Akrofrom JSS

Akrofrom(Ash), Dec.16, GNA - Mr Michael Yaw Nsiah, Executive Director of Miklin Hotel in Kumasi has presented 100 bags of cement worth 6.5 million cedis for the construction of a Junior Secondary School block at Akrofrom near Afari in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district of Ashanti.

The presentation was in fulfilment of a promise made by Mr Nsiah to speed up the construction of the school block to accommodate primary six pupils who attend school at Afari, Mim and Nkawie.

Making the presentation at the annual School Management Committee (SMC) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting at Akrofrom on Wednesday, Mr Nsiah advised the residents to initiate self-help programmes to enhance their standards of living.

He said the best legacy parents could bequeath to their children was to encourage them to acquire quality education and advised parents to send their children to school.

Mr Nsiah pledged his commitment to continue to provide the needed resources and materials to improve quality education delivery in the area and appealed to the people to assist the development projects with communal labour.

Mr F.C.K. Ntim-Gyakari, Nkawie Circuit Supervisor, said introduction of the Capitation grant to schools did not mean activities of SMCs and PTAs had been abolished.

He, therefore, urged them to continue to organise fund-raising and other income-generating activities to support school programmes. Mr Ntim-Gyakari expressed concern about the poor performance of schools within the circuit in last year's Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) and attributed the major cause to the inability of some parents to control and supervise their children's studies at home. Pastor Kofi Anning, Local SMC Chairman, receiving the items, advised parents to counsel their children to abstain from pre-marital sex and other activities that would lead them to contract HIV/AIDS.
