Military personnel at the exercise
The Achiase Jungle Warfare School of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has begun the “Ex-Tigers’ Path 2019” tri-service field training exercise at Akyem Abenase in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region.
This year’s exercise, the 14th edition, would take four days and has brought together six teams from the Northern Command, Central Command, Southern Command, Navy Command, Air Force and Support Services Brigade Group.
The Ex-Tigers' Path 2019 is designed to achieve a common goal to test marshalling drill, rescue in navigation, obstacle crossing, first aid in jungle setting, endurance and inter-service cooperation.
Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa, the Chief of Defence Staff and the guest speaker, said the current rate of terrorist attacks across the globe and especially in the West Africa sub-region is a major concern for the Military High Command and the government.
He said this calls for multi-agency and collaborative approach by all in dealing with the situation and internal security and counter insurgence operations would be conducted to assist the civil authorities to maintain or restore law and order.
“The public should see it as their duty to complement the effort of the security agencies by providing them timely information about the movement and activities of insurgents for early intervention,” Lt-Gen. Akwa said.
The Ex-Tigers’ Path was instituted in 1991 under a former Commandant of the Military Academy and Training School (MATS), Lieutenant Augustine Peter Blay, a past Chief of Defence Staff. It has been held annually since its commencement in 1993.
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion are Okumkom Boama Ankrah II, the Chief of Akyem Abenase, Lt-Col Owusu, Commander of the Achiase Jungle Warfare School and other heads of security agencies.
