The Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has said that a joint team of personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces have been deployed to Nkwanta, a community in the Oti Region, following the clashes that were seen in the community.
In a post shared on X on Friday, January 17, 2025, Kwakye Ofosu indicated that the clashes are a result of a chieftaincy dispute.
He said that the joint team of police and military were deployed to bring the situation under control, adding that reinforcements would be sent later on.
“On the Nkwanta clashes, believed to stem from a chieftaincy dispute, a combined team of police and military personnel were quickly deployed to restore calm.
“Additional troops are being sent today to enforce law and order,” the Spokesperson to the President wrote.
According to a report by citinewsroom.com, the violent clashes started on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, and continued into the night of Thursday, January 16, 2025.
At least three people have reportedly been killed and several others injured.
The report indicated that there have also been sporadic gunfires from unidentified individuals, which have left residents of Nkwanta in fear.
