Brigadier George Aryiku, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, has said the Military is not averse to constitutional rule but prepared to play its part to entrench democracy in the country.
He said Ghanaians must trust the commitment and dedication of the Military to use its resources towards the preservation of democracy.
"It is time Ghanaians erased their suspicions about soldiers and regard them as partners of constitutional rule in the country", he said.
Brig. Aryiku was speaking to newsmen in Sunyani on Thursday when he paid a familiarisation tour of the Sunyani Three Garrison.
The Commanding Officer said it is erroneous for Ghanaians to think that the military is against constitutional rule when records show that it had played critical roles in ensuring that democratic rule was restored in countries like Cambodia and Liberia.
"If we can help other countries to return to democratic rule, then there is no excuse for us to refrain from doing the same for our own country", he added.
Brig. Aryiku said the military exist to serve the government of the day and protect national interest and would not submit to the "whims and caprices" of people with personal agenda.
"It is for this reason that the Military Command will not countenance any acts of indiscipline within its ranks and whoever strays, will be shown the red card straight away", he warned.
He said the military is determined to improve its relationship with the civil society because it believes it is through co-operation that the nation could advance.
Brig. Aryiku said more than 390 military vehicles have been imported for distribution to the various units of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to enhance their operations.
The Commanding Officer said his vision for the Northern Command is to raise it to a " highly trained, disciplined and motivated force that is always ready to discharge its constitutional duty at any time".
Brigadier Aryiku toured the Sunyani Liberation Barracks and inspected ongoing projects including a sewerage plant for treatment of liquid waste.
