Military training to equip national service personnel with discipline, resilience and leadership skills will begin this year under a new initiative by the National Service Authority (NSA) in partnership with the Ghana Armed Forces.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the Acting Director-General of the Authority, Ruth Dela Seddoh, said the programme follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama to incorporate basic military training into the national service scheme.

“The training is designed to build discipline, civic responsibility, and physical endurance among personnel, preparing them to become more productive citizens and future leaders,” she stated.

Ruth Seddoh explained that the first phase will cover 10,000 service personnel nationwide, who will undergo basic combat drills, fitness routines and leadership development sessions under the supervision of the Ghana Armed Forces.

“Our goal is to instill discipline, foster a sense of national pride, and help young people develop the mindset needed to serve their country with integrity and commitment,” she said.

President Mahama first announced the plan during his 2025 State of the Nation Address, stressing the importance of combining academic growth with civic and physical discipline.

“We will introduce short military training as part of our national service scheme. This will instill a sense of fitness, patriotism and discipline in our youth,” the president said.
