The New Crusading Guide can confirm that there is shortage of water in the Accra Metropolis partly due to the shutdown of water hydrants and filling point allocated around the Awoshie & Kwashieman road in Accra.

Information reaching The New Crusading Guide indicates that the filling points and the water hydrants was shut down due to the re-construction of the Awoshie &Kwashieman main road by some National Security Personnel's who claimed they were ordered by President Mills to close down the hydrant.

The shutdown of the water hydrant has brought about massive shortage of water supply in some homes in the Greater Accra region whiles some water tankers that supply water into some homes in the region have being parked for three-months now without operation.

Meanwhile, The New Crusading Guide has gathered that the shutting down of the water hydrants was ordered by the government to enable free flow of water into homes.

The information revealed that the government intends to also give the hydrants closed down to the District Assemblies to operate. This action by the government has even worsened the water problem because the water tankers are no more supplying safe drinking water.

When The New Crusading Guide also visited some centers where these tankers operate it was discovered that they have been moved by the government without even compensating them or re-locating them to a new place. This has led some water tanker operators digging deep well to get water for their customers.

In a related development the Coalition of Private Water Services Providers (CPWSP's) are very worried over the closure of the water hydrants insisting that, that action is the remote cause of the water shortage in the metropolis.

According to CPWSP's "Now about 501 tankers have been parked" adding that, "these tankers were bought from loans and now the banks have started chasing them for it because business has been shut down."
