Mills assures nation of peaceful elections next year

Odumase-Krobo (E/R), Dec. 11, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills has said despite the rising political climate toward next year’s elections, the country will not ‘burn’ but come out clean, clear and continue to flourish.

This was contained in a speech read on his behalf by the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Ebenezer Terlabi at the dedication of a chapel by the Zimmermann Presbyterian Church, which was started 46 years ago at Odumase-Krobo and a manse on Sunday.

The chapel has a sitting capacity of 2,000 people, a social centre at the basement, offices for the Dangme-Tongu Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and a hall for session meetings.

He called on Ghanaians not to allow differences of opinion to be a cause of dispute and hatred but rather as a people the country needed to search for peace, unity and healthy dialogue that would lead to progress, prosperity and development.

President Mills called on churches and other religious organizations to sensitize their members to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections come next year.

Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Kobo Traditional Area, called on the people to let Christianity reflect in their lives outside the church so that they could win more people to the Lord.

Earlier in a sermon, the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. E Martey, called on Ghanaians not to panic in the face of threats from powerful nations because the country had refused to disobey the teachings of the Bible to legalize homosexuality.

He said Ghana would never go hungry even if those powerful nations decided to implement their threats. According to him, God had blessed the country with all that it needed and continued to bless the nation as evident by the recent mining discoveries and said what the leaders needed was the political will to manage the resources effectively.

Rt Rev. Prof. Martey called on those who are discouraged to be encouraged, saying the country was yet to see more wonderful blessings from God and called on politicians, traditional rulers, community leaders and churches to come together to provide good leadership for the country.
