Mills promises to maintain NHIS, Youth Employment

Cape Coast, Dec. 21, GNA- Professor John Atta Mills, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on has assured Ghanaians that he would maintain the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the Youth Employment Programme as well as the School Feeding programme when voted into power.

He said everything would be done to improve upon the programmes to make them viable so as to create more jobs for the youth. Professor Atta Mills gave the assurance at a mini rally held at Abura a suburb of Cape Coast as part of his tour of the Central Region, to thank the people for voting for him in the December 7, elections. He denied rumours that NDC would sack all those who have been employed under the youth employment programmes, and stressed that the NDC government would rather make it easier and comfortable for the employees of the programmes.

Prof. Atta Mills commended the police and all security agencies for ensuring peace before, during and after the elections and urged then to maintain the same peace during the run-off.

He pledged that his government would do everything possible to improve upon the living conditions of the police and regretted that, despite the important role the police play in the nation's development they were still living under very poor conditions.

The Flagbearer commended the people of the region for voting massively for him in the December 7 elections and urged them to do same in the run-off and promised to work hand-in-hand with Mr. Ebo Barton-Odro the Cape Coast constituency Member of Parliament-elect. Mr. Ebo Barton-Odro thanked the people of Cape Coast for believing in the change message of the NDC by demonstrating it during the December 7 elections.

He said at the moment the NDC had the majority members in parliament and stressed that for them to enjoy absolute change it was imperative for the electorate to crown it all by voting Prof Atta Mills into power. He urged the people of Cape Coast to come out in their numbers to vote so as to make the change message a reality and that his victory in the just ended elections was for all the people in the constituency no matter their party affiliation and promised to work hard to enhance the development of the area.

Prof. Atta Mills, who was accompanied by the party's women's organiser, Mrs. Ama Benyiwa-Doe, deputy national organiser, Mr Boateng Gyan also addressed similar rallies at Ntsin, suburb of Cape Coast, Elmina and Komenda.
