Accra, Sept. 9, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills on Thursday presented 30 bags of rice and three cartons of cooking oil to three Muslim organisations separately in Accra.
The items were sent to the residence of the National Chief Imam at New Fadama and the headquarters of the Ahlussunna Wal Jama'a at Nima and Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission at Osu.
The food items were to support this year's Eid-ul-fitr celebration.
The presentations were made on behalf of President Mills, by Mr Emmanuel Adzei Annan, Member of Council of State.
He sent President Mills' best wishes to all Muslims in the country and congratulated them for completing the Ramadan.
Mr Annan called on Muslims to support government's Better Ghana Agenda and pray for peace and tranquility in the country.
Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, National Chief Imam expressed appreciation to government for the items and prayed for Allah's guidance to President Mills and Vice President John Mahama for good health and peace.
He said Ghanaians should recognise that some countries did not have the opportunity to celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr because of conflicts and other social problems and asked Ghanaians to thank Allah for the celebration.
Sheikh Umar Ibrahim Imam, National Imam of Ahlussunna Wal Jama'a thanked President Mills on behalf of Muslims for the gesture and urged the youth to be obedient and respectful in society.
He said it was not only government that had to provide jobs for the youth but rather they must take the initiative.
Maulvi Wahab Adam, Ameer and Missionary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission said the high powered delegation accompanying the presentation showed the importance government attaches to the celebration.
He explained that Ramadan was one of the five pillars of Islam and demonstrated fellow feeling for each other.
Maulvi Adam prayed for the nation and asked for Allah's blessings for all Ghanaians during this time of the Ramadan.
He said the missionary had its own distribution system which would ensure that various presentations to the Mission reached the needy in society.
