Accra, Nov. 23, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills on Monday reminded government appointees and functionaries to improve on their performance to enlist good assessment by the public.

He said "it is a matter of pride to serve in Government, but political appointees must keep in mind the people who voted the Government into power and live up to roles expected of them".

President Mills was administering the Oaths of Office, Allegiance and Secrecy to Dr Benjamin Kumbuor, Minister of Health and Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Member of Parliament for Kpone Katamanso as Minister of State at the Office of the President at the Osu Castle.

He reminded Ministers of State that they were appointed because of their commitment to serve and should therefore contribute their best towards the success of Government's agenda of "A Better Ghana".

President Mills urged Government appointees and functionaries to make themselves available to the people who voted them into power, put their ears on the ground, listen to their concerns and send them to the appropriate quarters for redress.

He noted that Ministers of State had their weaknesses and strengths, but should endeavour to complement each other to implement Government's policies, programmes and be accountable to the people. Dr Kumbuor, on behalf of his colleague thanked President Mills for the confidence reposed in them and promised to work to the best of their capabilities.
