A 22-year old miner, John Yaw Boadi who allegedly bit off the upper lips of Oliver Adjei, 47, has been fined GH¢ 300.00 by a Tarkwa Circuit court.

In default, the convict would serve 28 days in prison.

He pleaded guilty to the offence of causing harm and was ordered to compensate the victim with an amount of GH¢ 900.00.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court, that the complainant, Oliver Adjei, is a small-scale miner and resides in the same area with the convict at Nkwanta, near Nsueam in the Tarkwa-Nsueam Municipality.

He said on February 22, at about 2200 hours, Adjei was sitting in his wife’s store when the convict came with GH¢ 2.00 to buy a pair of dry cells battery.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant took the convict’s GH¢ 2.00 and decided to bring a change of 50 pesewas since the battery costs GH¢ 1.50 pesewas.

However, Adjei could not get 50 pesewas coins change and, therefore, returned the convict’s money to him and collected the battery, but Boadi became offended and started insulting the complainant.

Prosecution said the convict suddenly pounced on the complainant and bit his upper lips resulting in profuse bleeding before neighbours came to his aid from the aggressor and he later reported the incident to the police who issued him with a medical report form to seek treatment.

The convict was later arrested by the police and after interrogation charged with the offence.
