The operation to rescue 40 illegal miners who were trapped in a pit at Nyanfoman-Noyem has been called off. The illegal mingers (popularly known as "galamsey" operators) were prospecting for gold on a site belong to Newmont Ghana Limited when a pit caved in on them. Sources close to the rescue mission say the operation was called off because it had become too risky for the personnel involved.
