Minister Asks West African Countries To Help Sustain RMA

Tema (GAR), June 27, - An appeal has been made to Industries in the West African sub-region benefiting from graduates of the Regional Maritime Academy (RMA) to contribute financially or in kin Mr Mike Hammah, Deputy Minister of Roads and Transport, made the call at the graduation parade of 20 cadets of the academy at Nungua. The parade, which was formed by 83 men was under the command of Cadet Captain Richard Ansah Addo from the Marine, Radio and Electronic Department. Mr Hammah said the RMA has great potential for expansion but its growth is being stifled by the lack of adequate financial support from member-countries. He noted that in spite of this limitation, the government of Ghana is determined to support the academy in view of its significance in the effort of Africa towards sub-regional co-operation. ''The RMA represents a symbol of vision and an effort of Africa towards sub-regional co-operation". Mr Hammah said a significant development in the training and certification of sea farers which is of much concern to the ministry is the need to meet the specified reversed standards of traini The convention imposes stringent requirements on member states of IMO to upgrade existing standards in order to obtain international standards.
