...Over GHC5, 000.00 Fraud!

Credible information picked up by the Daily Searchlight yesterday indicates that the office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Alex Segbefia, which was supposed to be used for the running of the day to day administration of the President John Evans Atta Mills’ government was rather turned into a boxing arena on Monday, this week, when the Deputy Chief of Staff engaged in a physical brawl with an unknown lady!

The heated battle between Mr. Alex Segbefia and the lady, which occurred around 12 mid day on Monday, according to the information, followed the failure on the part of the Deputy Chief of Staff to fulfill a promise of offering the lady a vehicle after allegedly taking an amount of 50 million old cedis from her.

The nasty incident continued for a long period while other visitors were waiting to see the Deputy Chief of Staff, and sensing his reputation was at stake, and probably his job as well, the Deputy Chief of Staff is said to have called in some personnel from the National Security who responded immediately by dashing to Mr. Segbefia’s office to pick the lady up to the National Security Secretariat at Blue Gate where, after detaining her for some time, the powers that be at the ‘Blue Gate’ ordered the lady to write a statement after which she was left to go and report later.

When we called the Public Relations Officer of the National Security, Mrs. Jackie Ankrah on the matter she initially denied that such a case had occurred but after sometime she called back and told us that the matter was between Mr. Alex Segbefia and the lady and therefore urged us to speak to him.

According to the sources, the lady approached the Deputy Chief of Staff that she needed a vehicle, and this, Mr. Segbefia allegedly assured her he could get one for her provided the lady pays 50 million, which she paid.

Since then Mr. Segbefia, the sources continued started playing dilly dally game with her, and feeling suspicious that the car was not going to materialize, she stormed his office on the Monday to demand her money which ended up in a physical showdown between the two.

The information maintained that due to Mr. Segbefia’s good relationship with the lady, immediately she got to his office she was let in by the secretary to the inner sanctum of the Deputy Chief of Staff on the orders of her boss, even though there were others who had been at the reception waiting to see Mr. Segbefia, and while the visitors were waiting for their turn the fracas started.

Several attempts to reach Mr. Segbefia on the matter yesterday failed as he refused to respond to our calls to his cell phone. Finally, he banged his line on us.
