THE MINISTER for Works and Housing, Mr. Yaw Barimah, has expressed regret that some residents in Koforidua are passing sarcastic remarks that he is not in any way helping to solve the water problem in the area.

"Day in and day out people pass bad remarks about me that as a minister in charge of that sector and their MP, they are not seeing any improvement in the system," he said.

He expressed his worry at the first NPP constituency rally at Koforidua last Saturday. Yaw Barima disclosed that the government has signed a loan of $40billion to rehabilitate the old water system to increase supply from one million gallons a day to three million gallons a day in short term plan while the long term plan is still being worked at.

He observed that the NPP will only be changed by the acts and omissions of its supporters.

The minister pointed out that the NPP is bigger than any other person so personalities should not be made as gods over the party.

The MP for Koforidua stated that as a regional capital, it has been neglected in terms of development.

But to bring about development in the area, the people should come together to talk about the development they want.

"Competition will come 2004 but now is the time for co-operation and I will urge all of you to support me to deliver so that when the competition comes we compete," he said.

The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (NJMCE), Nana Adjei Boateng, made it clear that whoever thinks that NDC will come back to power is daydreaming.

"We are not going to practise fear and destruction," he added. He mentioned a lot of projects being undertaken by the NJMA with funding from the HIPC benefits.

Adjei Boateng disclosed that so far the NJMA has disbursed ?804million under the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF).

The MCE warned that whoever defaults payment of the loan will be prosecuted no matter what party he is affiliated with.

The occasion was also used to launch the party's ID cards in the constituency by the Eastern Regional Secretary at NPP, Mr. Alex Agobo.
