Minister for Private Sector Development, Kwamena Bartels has reminded the opposition NDC of ex-President Rawlings? gloomy prophecy he made about the party in 1996. Mr Bartels who was addressing NPP members at a rally to round off the party?s congress quoted Proverbs 18: 21

''The tongue has the power of life and death and those who have it would eat its fruits'', to support his position that ex-President Rawlings had with his tongue, cursed and condemned the NDC to perpetual opposition.
According to Bartels, Rawlings told NDC members and supporters at a rally in Kumasi in 1996 that should they allow power to slip from their hands to the NPP, they were never going to get that power again and they (NDC) would be consigned to perpetual opposition.

This, Bartels told his party faithfuls, has become a reality. ''I did not say it'', Bartels emphasized, ''Rawlings said it himself.''

Bartels supported his claim with a similar statement that Rawlings made in the year 2000 at the Indafa Park in Accra. ''Now Kufuor is in power so it would take some time for NDC to come to power.''

President Kufuor who had earlier been popularly acclaimed as the flagbearer of the NPP for the 2004 elections told the enthusiastic crowd clad in party colours that his retention as the flagbearer of the NPP for the next elections is a good omen for the realization of the dreams of the founders of the party.
