The parliamentary candidate of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asunafo South in the Brong Ahafo Region, George Boakye, has accused the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency, Mr Eric Opoku, who is also the regional minister, of contracting assassins to take his life.

Mr Boakye made the allegation when he spoke to Chief Jerry Forson on Accra100.5FM’s breakfast show, Ghana Yensom, on Friday, 18 November.

Mr Boakye alleged that 15 thugs contracted by the governing National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate attacked his home in the dead of the night on Thursday, 17 November, amidst gunshots, with the sole aim of killing him.

He claimed the assassins, who also wielded crude weapons and machetes, fled only after his wife pulled a prank on them by screaming: “You have achieved your aim of killing my husband.”

However, Mr Opoku, who was also called on the same programme, vehemently denied the allegation. He said he had nothing to do with any alleged attempts on Mr Boakye’s life, adding that such claims and allegations were becoming one too many. Mr Opoku said he would personally report the matter to the police for investigations to be launched into the alleged incident. He also imposed a curse on himself saying: “May I not see another day, if, indeed, I hired assassins to kill George Boakye.”
