Minister admits Mills is slow

The Eastern Regional Minister and National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has admitted that President John Evans Atta Mills is indeed slow but very sure of what he was doing.

According to him, the Professor knew very well what he was doing and would not rush due to pressures from some section of the populace to jeopardize the good policies and programmes he has in store for the nation.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo said this over the weekend during the Central Regional Delegates conference of the party at Ajumako.

He disclosed that the NDC government was drawing up durable and practicable policies and programmes that will sustain the country for the needed stability and advised Ghanaians to have faith in the leadership of the ruling government.

Mr Ampofo said due to the good management of the economy under the leadership of President Mills, the cedi has become the only currency in Africa rising against the American dollar.

He further disclosed that plans were underway by government with support from the Korean government to start a 200,000 housing unit project early next year to provide affordable housing for Ghanaian workers as promised by the NDC in the 2008 election campaign.

He assured party foot soldiers of government’s commitment to meet their expectations for the hard work which ensured that the party wrestled power from the then New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Hannah Tetteh said even though things have not been smooth at the top due to the bad governance of the NPP, the NDC was moving in the right direction and that things will soon be better under the presidency of Prof Mills.

According to her, government has been able to clear huge part of the debt left behind by the NPP and urged Ghanaians to have patience with the ruling government for better things were yet to come.

She advised the delegates to remain united and continue to support the President so as to enable the party maintain power in 2012.

The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, bemoaned the rate at which delegates accept gifts before accepting to vote for a candidate, saying this practice normally compels delegates to elect unqualified persons who bring the chances of the party down during elections.

She called on the party members to examine the behaviours of candidates who vie for key positions in the party before voting for them.

The chairman of Cocobod and financier of the party, Dr. P.Y Kuranchie, who chaired the function, noted that Ghana was lucky to have President Mills as President and called on the people in the region to set the pace and form a united front to enable the President achieve the better Ghana agenda.

He noted that the 2012 elections will be very difficult for the NDC, especially in the Central Region and advised party members to avoid internal bickering so as to enable the party win the confidence of Ghanaians in the next election.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantsiman East, Mr Kuntu Blankson, said God has blessed Ghana by helping the NDC come back to power to redeem Ghanaians from the hands of the NPP.

He assured the delegates that NDC MPs from the region were putting up a package to reward party foot soldiers who helped the party come back to power.

He also disclosed that plans were underway for the establishment of a regional office for the party to enable members gain access to information.

Lawyer Samuel Adu Yeboah was elected the Regional Chairman of the party, while Prof. Samuel M Quartey and Mr Samuel Graham Wilberforce were elected as First and Second Vice Chairmen respectively.

Madam Grace Ekua Sam got the nod for the position of deputy Secretary while Abeiku Aggrey and Harriet Atta Akorful were elected deputy Organiser and Treasurer respectively.

Mr Allotey Jacobs, Patrick Aniagyei, Ekow Anyaful and Nana Osiebi were elected unopposed as the Propaganda Secretary, Organiser, Secretary and deputy Propaganda Secretary respectively.
