Residents of Abuakwa-Koforidua in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Constituency in the Ashanti Region hooted and chased away Mr Benito Bio, their Member of Parliament (MP) and Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources from a town hall meeting, The Chronicle has gathered.
Yaw Burger, leader of the youth, who supervised the action against the MP, explained to The Chronicle and other journalists that residents in the community are peeved for being left behind in terms of development projects for the past 19 years that the MP has represented them in parliament.
According to him, the MP’s performance as their legislator, who is supposed to lobby and bring jobs and other developmental infrastructure is abysmal and dared him not to attempt contesting the seat come 2020.
He disclosed that the community is facing problems with basic needs such as roads and toilet facilities, which the MP has turned a deaf ear to, but is rather embarking on a police station project.
According to him, they are not against the building of the police station, but the site where the MP has decided to put up the facility.
Yaw Burger claimed the community has made a piece of land available for the construction, yet he (MP) decided to build the project in the bush.
He disclosed that, until the MP relocates the project to the town and create jobs for the youth, they (the youth) would do whatever they can to stop the project.
According to him, they chased the MP away over failed campaign promises and his inability to visit the constituency regularly to have first-hand information about their plight.
Mr Ansere Boateng, the immediate past Assemblyman for the area, has meanwhile told journalists that the youth who harassed the Deputy minister were drugs addicts who are against the construction of a police station.
