Minister commends private sector in education development

Kumasi, Oct.30, GNA - The government has commended the private sector for its invaluable contribution to the human resource development of the nation.

Mr Dan Botwe, Minister of Information, who made the commendation, said the government recognized and appreciate the immense role of the private sector in the development of human resource of the country. The government would therefore, give the necessary support and encouragement to the private sector to enhance effective development in the country.

Mr Botwe was speaking at the matriculation ceremony of the Christian Service College in Kumasi on Saturday. Three hundred and fifteen students were admitted to study business and theological studies at the college.

Mr Botwe commended the board and management of the college for ensuring high discipline and academic excellence at the college. Dr Sam Afrane, chairman of the Council, said the National Accreditation Board (NAB) had officially granted the college the status of a university college.

He said a scholarship scheme in honour of the late Mrs Juliana Senavor; former principal of the college would soon be launched to assist needy students.

Dr S.B Adubofour, acting principal of the college, renewed his appeal to the government to amend the GETfund law to enable accredited private tertiary institutions to access funds for infrastructural development.

He said the authorities were exploring the opportunity of securing access to the SSNIT student's loans scheme for its students. Oct.30 05
