Professor Kwesi Yankah, Minister of State In charge of Tertiary Education has cut the sod for the construction of four separate school projects for Agona East District and Agona West Municipality to improve educational infrastructure in the Area.
The projects are; a Kindergarten block at Agona Duakwa Methodist, three Unit Classroom block at Kwesi Twikrom, six classroom unit for Kwansakrom Agona East District Assembly basic school and Kindergarten at Agona Otapirow in Agona West are being financed by the GETFUND.
Speaking at separate functions, Prof Yankah said government was taking bold steps to address problems facing basic education to reverse the falling standards of students’ performance.
He noted that sound environment gave impetus to teachers and students to enhance quality teaching and learning.
At Kwesi Twikrom, Prof Yankah pledged government’s commitment to construct teachers’ quarters to ease their burden as they commuted to and from Agona Swedru, Winneba, Kwanyako, and Awutu Bawjiase to teach.
Prof Yankah stated that government would continue to improve secondary, vocational and Technical education to help solve the unemployment menace in the country and praised the teachers, especially females working in deprived communities for their sacrifices to ensure that children in Agona East and West access quality education.
Prof Yankah said modern teaching materials and new set of furniture would be provided to all new Kindergarten(KG) blocks for the children to get better environment to learn.
The Minister urged the contractors to speed up the pace of work, but produce quality work to ensure value for money, Mr Dennis Armah Frempong, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Agona East thanked Prof Yankah for his immense contribution towards quality education in the Agona East and West.
He called on the parents and guardians to send their children to school as education was the panacea to poverty reduction and assured that government would never shirk its responsibility towards quality education.
The DCE said within two years in Office, the government had completed more than 30 projects in the areas of health, education, roads and others which had contributed to the development of the district.
Mrs. Justina Marygold Assan, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) thanked the Minister for helping to enhance educational infrastructure in the Agona West.
She said through the instrumentality of Prof Yankah Agona Nyakrom Islamic school now had a KG block, while Agona Swedru Salvation Army School also had a new six-classroom block to replace a dilapidated one which became a death trap for both teachers and pupils.
