Minister for tourism, Arts and Culture Catherine Afeku,has taken a tumultuous swipe at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the funeral of legendary Ghanaian actor Super OD.
Born Asonaba Kwaku Darko,Super OD who died at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital on Tuesday, February 13 2018 after battling a long illness was buried on Saturday.May 19,2018.
Among the numerous sympathizers who gathered at the funeral grounds at Agona Abodom in the Central Region to pay their last respect to the late actor were a delegation from the National Democratic Congress,headed by ex-president Mahama,Allotey Jacobs, Actors and the Minister for tourism ,arts and Culture Madam Catherine Afeku.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kwasi Aboagye,on Peace FM's Entertainment Review, the tourism minister, Madam Catherine Akeku disdainfully delineated that, the opposition NDC party hijacked the funeral by turning it into a mini rally— displaying their party paraphernalia all over the funeral grounds:
“It was very awkward and uncomfortable to see so many people clad in NDC colours at the funeral grounds as if it was an NDC event— in fact it was like a mini NDC rally”, she noted.
When asked by Kwasi aboagye to clarify what she meant by NDC turning the funeral into a mini rally, Madam Afeku explained that,
“I went to the funeral because I know Super OD was an industry person but I was surprised to hear the Central Regional chairman of the NDC party Allotey Jacobs label Super OD an NDC member when he mounted the podium to speak”.
Super OD, was popular in Akan drama series Osofo Dadzie and Obra in the late ’80s and ’90s.
