Minister hosts Norway delegation

Accra, Feb. 26, GNA - Mr. Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, has asked the Norwegian government to support Ghana in the fields of environment and climate change in the wake of the country's oil discovery.

"Since your country, Norway has vast experience in oil exploitation and its implications on the environment, I hope they will put their expertise at our disposal," he said.

Mr Adjei-Darko made these remarks when he hosted a dinner for an 18-man delegation led by Mr Erik Solheim, Minister for Environment and International Development of Norway on Monday.

He also asked the Minister to assist Ghana with its urban transport project aimed at curbing carbon emission from vehicles. Mr Solheim said his visit to Ghana was to help explore new areas of cooperation like the oil and gas industry adding, "Norway is ready to put its expertise at the disposal of Ghana when the need arises." He commended the government on the way it has managed the country's oil discovery.
