Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, has inspected some major waterways and storm drains in the Municipality following recent flash storms which resulted in the death of a five year old pupil.
Engineers from Amandi Construction limited were at the site of the broken retaining wall, where the pupil died, close to the Volta Regional Hospital.
Dr Vincent Akpakli, Director, Ho Municipal Department of Urban Roads, said tree trunks and other debris chocked the culvert, forcing the water to find its way around leading to the breach of the culvert.
He said a bridge would eventually be constructed to enable the free flow of water. Dr Letsa expressed gratitude to Amandi Constuction for the dredging and advised residents to leave green areas for water to seep into the ground during rainstorms to ease pressure on waterways and storm drains.
He called for public education on sanitation and the indiscriminate building on waterways adding that trees and other vegetation along the banks of rivers would be cleared.
Dr Letsa said the floods were becoming an annual affair in the Municipality and advised that school children be kept in school whenever it rained.
