Minister interacts with class one pupils

Dehia (C/R), Sept. 13, GNA - A Deputy Minister for Education and Sports, Mrs Angelina Baiden Amissah, on Tuesday toured some primary schools in the Cape Coast municipality to interact with class one pupils, who are in school for the first time in order to psych them up to sustain their interest in school.

The regional and municipal directors of education Mrs Justina Torjagbo and Ms Veronica Fry Annan respectively, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Muniru Arafat Nuhu and some officials from the regional education directorate accompanied her. Mrs Amissah shared caps with "my first day at school 2005" inscription on them and biscuits to the children, during which they sang and danced.

Even though the programme, which has been dubbed "first day at school" by the GES was to whip up the interest of class one pupils, the aura of "school phobia" that formerly characterizes ones' first day at school was absent, apparently because the children have already had a taste of school at the pre-school level.

She told them that it was now a policy of the ministry to give school children at the basic level a balanced meal a day and explained that it would be done gradually until it gets to all schools. Mrs Amissah urged them to develop more interest in school and study hard to be responsible adults in future. Among the schools she visited are the Saint Monica's, Philip Quarque Girls and Jubilee Catholic Boys Primary Schools all in Cape Coast.

At Nyinasin and Dehia, also in the municipality, Mr Arafat Nuhu also interacted with the pupils and urged them to study harder and also encourage their friends, who are at home to get enrolled. 13 Sept, 05
