Minister lauds CNC for 'Adasa Village 2019'

Mrs Barbara Oteng Gyasi, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC) has lauded the Centre for National Culture (CNC) – Accra for its initiative and consistency towards “Adasa Village” over the past four years.

The Competition dubbed “Adasa Village” is a brainchild of the centre and was organized to bring back the fading art of Storytelling and Folksong into the fibre of the Ghanaian culture.

The Competition which was held in Accra on Friday brought together Opinion leaders across the nation, students from Basic and Junior High Schools within the municipality and other members within the arts and culture fraternity to celebrate the rich Ghanaian culture through storytelling, folksongs and different spectacular cultural performances from various tribes across the nation.

Mrs Gyasi said that the Centre’s initiative was in line with the functions of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to develop and promote arts and culture, activities which was geared towards the greater good, to optimize growth and development in the nation.

“Ghana is a country that has one of the richest customs and traditions in Africa. Being home to roughly 100 linguistic and cultural groups, it has a wide variety of beliefs, myths, morals and cultural values.

These add an element of mystery and fascination to our identity and have been passed on from one generation to the next, thus becoming an integral part of the Ghanaian society”, she said.

The Honourable minister added that this could not be achieved without a conscious instruction or direction for our ways of living as human beings and as Ghanaians, as Culture could not be ignored in our quest for development.

She said Story telling was the most practical way of passing down knowledge across generations, without writing and helped to make meaning of our world, and taught important aspects of our culture.

“We can all attest to the fact that, as dynamic as culture is, some aspects of our culture are fading day in and day out and I pledge that my ministry will support to growing this program.” She concluded.

The Competition ended with Jahrocks Basic School immerging as winners, Best Brain Academy, took the second position followed by Bishop Girls School, Accra at the third position.
