The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, has paid a courtesy visit to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ghana Country Office in Accra.
The minister and his delegation were warmly received by the UNDP Resident Representative in Ghana, Niloy Banerjee, who led a high-level team from the UNDP.
Banerjee extended his congratulations to the minister for his exemplary leadership in advancing climate diplomacy and driving a coordinated national approach to sustainability.
He lauded the minister’s commitment to inclusive climate governance and innovation.
“Seidu Issifu’s vision reflects a bold and necessary shift toward integrated and inclusive climate action in Ghana. UNDP stands ready to deepen its partnership in supporting this transformative agenda,” said Niloy Banerjee, UNDP Resident Representative.
In his remarks, Seidu Issifu outlined the Government’s key initiatives, including the proposed establishment of a National Climate Change and Sustainability Hub, envisioned as a center of excellence for coordination, innovation, and capacity building.
He also shared plans to institutionalise Climate Change and Sustainability Units across all Ministries, Agencies, and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to mainstream climate action at all levels of governance.
“We are committed to embedding climate resilience into the heart of our national development. The creation of a sustainability hub and climate units across government is our strategy to ensure no institution is left behind in the fight for a livable future,” stated Seidu Issifu, Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability.
The discussions between both teams focused on deepening UNDP–Government co-creation efforts in key areas including climate finance, the carbon market, gender mainstreaming, local climate action, NDCs as investment tools, water conservation, and capacity building for government actors.
The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to building a more climate-resilient Ghana, with both sides agreeing to explore new avenues of partnership that place people, equity, and sustainability at the center of development efforts.
