Minister returns from UN visit

Accra, Nov. 30, GNA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nana Akufo Addo, this evening returned to Accra at the end of a week's official visit to the US.

The delegation, sent upon the instruction of ECOWAS Chairman, President John Agyekum Kufuor, was made up of a five-man ECOWAS ministerial team, including the Foreign Ministers of Guinea, Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire and the Executive Secretary of ECOWAS, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas.


In a chat with journalists on arrival, Nana Akufo Addo said the delegation was charged by the ECOWAS chairman to consult with the UN Security Council as well as the US Secretary of State, Collin Powell, the Prospects of a full UN Security Council involvement in Cote d'Ivoire's political situation.


He described both meetings as very successful and added that both the US Ambassador to the US and Mr. Collin Powell said the America government was most likely to support the delegation's mission.

The Foreign Minister observed that although the situation in Cote d'Ivoire was not an easy one, it not be resolved through the support and goodwill of the community.


The delegation also stopped over in Rome to hold discussions with Ghana's Ambassadors serving in Europe countries.
