Minister unhappy with rehabilitation works on circle rail lines

Accra, July 14, GNA - Mr. Mike Hammah, Minister of Transportation has expressed displeasure about rehabilitation works on the rail lines, at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

Interacting with the press on Tuesday during the inspection of the works, he said due to the busy nature of the rail lines, he expected the Ghana Railways Company to do minor repairs on the lines so that commuters could used it immediately and make adequate preparations for major rehabilitation later.

"These rail lines are very busy and their ineffectiveness will affect workers and other economic activities," he explained. He warned squatters not to encroach the railways reservation land since it put their lives at risk in case of any derailment. Mr. Hammah directed engineers of the company to come out with a plan on the rehabilitation works by the close of the day. According to Mr. Ato Botwe, Deputy Managing Director of the company, the works which would be completed in two weeks, is estimated to cost GHc 10, 000.

An Nsawam -Accra bound train derailed at the circle on Friday (July 10) due to the weakness of the slippers.
