Minister urges religious leaders to refrain from partisan politics

Mr Eric Opoku, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has appealed to religious leaders to refrain from using the pulpit to talk partisan political issues.

He said the pulpit, which is used in propagating the Gospel, was now being used for partisan politics.

Mr Opoku said this at the 35th National Annual Convention of Ghana Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association in Sunyani.

The convention on the theme “Moral Excellence: An Undisputable Requirement of an Ideal Woman in Ghana” was to create opportunity for the association to renew its commitment to God, share ideas, learn from each other and socialize.

He expressed concern about the manner national issues were being politicized since issues beneficial to the nation are criticized on partisanship to the detriment of national development.

Mr Opoku called on religious leaders to advise their congregations to refrain from politicizing issues on national development, adding “The nation is now polarized with politics anytime.”

Mrs Habiba Abubakar from the Ghana Muslims Mission said women continued to play important role in the upbringing of children and are good managers at home.

She appealed to them to help minimize indiscipline in the society especially among the youth.
