Nsawam, April 26, GNA - The Eastern Regional Minister, Miss Patience Adow, on Tuesday paid a visit to the victims of the Nsawam Adoagyiri accident that killed 18 people at the Nsawam Government Hospital.
She had earlier visited the accident site to ascertain the impact of the accident. At the hospital, two of the survivors, Miss Comfort Oseibea, 34, and Belinda Owoo, a class three pupil who suffered a second degree burns, briefed Miss Adow on how the accident occurred. Both are responding to treatment.
According to Miss Oseibea, on reaching Adoagyiri section of the Asamankese-Nsawam road on their way to Ada for a convention, their driver attempted to overtake two vehicles on the trot but was prevailed upon by their pastor not to do so.
She said before they realised, the driver had accelerated and collided with an on-coming pick-up. Immediately, she said, fire engulfed the vehicle while the doors got locked trapping the passengers.
Miss Oseibea said she was saved through a broken window while the daughter who was trapped beneath a seat, was rescued and rushed to the Asamankese hospital with broken legs.
Belinda Owoo, though cheerful on her hospital bed, was not so lucky as she lost the mother in the inferno and suffered serious burns on both legs. Madam Juliana Akrofi, Senior Enrolled Nurse, who conducted the Minister round, said some of the victims have been transferred to the Ridge Hospital in Accra and the Tema Government Hospital for further attention.
