TWO OF THEM DENY ALLEGATIONS
The North Kwabenya Residents and Developers Association on Tuesday accused two Ministers, a Deputy Minister and the Police of supporting operations of land guards in the Greater Accra Region.

Those they accused were, Mr Kwamina Bartels (pictured), Minister of Private Sector Development, Sheikh I. C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister and Captain Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.

Nana Kofi Agyekum, Spokesman for the Association, told a news conference in Accra that the officials through their agents and collaborators have destroyed structures, farms and other properties on their legally acquired lands at Kwabenya.

He also accused the Kwabenya, Madina and Nima Police of collaborating and protecting lands guards.

Mr Bartels and Captain Effah-Dartey denied any complicity, when the Ghana News Agency asked them to comment on the allegations levelled against them. Sheikh Quaye is out of the country.

Mr Agyekum accused officialdom of fettering them while allowing thugs, hooligans and misguided charlatans to have a field day. He said members of the Association would, starting from next week, begin to protect their property and accused the three official of using their positions to prop up gangs that were engaged in perpetrating lawlessness.

Two Ministers deny allegations

Accra, Sept. 16, GNA - Mr Kwamina Bartels Minister for Private Sector Development and Captain Nkreabeah Effah-Dartey (rtd), Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development on Tuesday denied allegation of supporting land guards in the Greater Accra Region.

"This news is a shocker, unbelievable and a calculated attempt to tarnish our image for whatever propagandist agenda," the Two Ministers told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra.

The North Kwabenya Residents and Developers Association had accused the Mr Bartels of supporting one Mr Kweku Kyeremanteng to destroy property on lands that were properly acquired. "Mr Bartels was amply notified that a portion of land being taken over by Mr Kyeremanteng belongs to some members of our Association, but he went forward, connived with him to launch an estate project on the acquisition of those members of our Association," Nana Kofi Agyekum, a Spokesman for the Association told Journalists at a news conference. Mr Bartels said; "this is totally false, I have not visited Kwabenya over the last 10 years...have no knowledge of any estate project by Mr Kyeremanteng in the area.

"I only know of an estate project by Mr Kyeremanteng at the Berekusu and not at Kwabenya, I would, therefore, consult my Lawyers for advice."

The Association also said one Mr Bright Oduro, a top client of Captain Effah-Dartey's law firm was using that linkage to frustrate Police investigations.

Capt. Effah-Dartey denied knowledge of the case saying, "my brother, I have nothing to do with my law firm, for the past three years I have devoted my life to politics.

"The law firm is a different entity and whatever case they handled are purely at the discretion of the lawyers and not Effah-Dartey." Meanwhile the GNA was told that Sheikh I. C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional, who was also accused, was out of the country.
