The National Democratic Congress has alleged that the Akufo-Addo government reduced the aim of ministries and the Osu Castle to cooking centers to prepare food for the vulnerable in society.

According to the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, there’s an evidence to their claim as some cooking utensils can still be found at the castle despite the lift of the lockdown on the country months ago.

He averred that “this grossly unprepared to soften the blow for the most vulnerable people and households in our nations when the lockdown became necessary. What we saw was ministries now reduced to cooking centers. Can you imagine a ministry now undertaking cooking directly as if it was a responsibility of the minister for gender and children protection or the minister for Zongo affairs to set up a waakye or a kenkey or rice factory at the castle…some of the lost cooking pots are still around the Osu castle”.

Haruna Iddrisu said after belittling the ministries, government could not provide better meals for these deserving Ghanaians with the GH¢2 million allocated for the acquisition and distribution of food."

It would be recalled that the former Minister for Gender and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur said the giveaway of 400,000 meals a day which amounted to GHC2 million is a clear waste of money.

Siding with her, the minority leader in parliament said, “Even if you spent GH¢2m a day, Papaye standard should know what a vulnerable Ghanaian is deserving of in terms of a dignified honourable meal and not that insulting package of food that was given out in respect of GH¢2m”.

He noted that the NDC will demand accountability and an audit for all the monies the Akufo-Addo government spent on the fight against the disease.
