The Ministry of Transport and Communication has requested the Australian government to arrest and repartriate five Ghanaians allegedly working there with fake documents. The five, working with Rooney Shipping and Trading Company of Australia possess fake certificates of competency as engineers and deck officers.

They include Gordon German-Grant Kudjo Gbowoko, who is posing as a second-class marine engineer, Ernst Arthur with a class three-deck officer certificate, Alhassan Somuah, Anthony Mensah and Godwin Nyanyo.

The Ghana Merchant Navy Officers Association has informed the International Transport Federation that neither the association nor the Transport and Communications Ministry awarded the certificates to the men.

According to the General Secretary of the association, Sigi Buckman, the exposure is a disgrace to the country, which was recently placed on the white list of the International Maritime Organisation.

Placement on the white list gives international recognition to certificates issued by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Regional Maritime Academy.
