The Ministry of Education clarified the recent announcement about the revision of fees for second cycle schools, training colleges and vocational institutes.

Following representations by the Heads and Principals of assisted institutions on the inadequacy of the current feeding fee of 3,000 cedis per day, agreement was reached to increase the feeding fee to 4,200 cedis per day.

The basis for the increase was that the institutions would continue to offer balanced and nutritious meals to ensure that students do maintain healthy and sound minds, thus enabling them to concentrate on their studies.

However, in line with its commitment to make access to education and training affordable, the government has directed the Ministry of Education to undertake a comprehensive review of fees at all levels of basic, secondary and vocational education.

The objective of the review will be to identify and eliminate some fees, which are considered unfair and therefore, should not be borne by parents and guardians.

The outcome of the review of fees, which will be announced before the start of the new school year in September, should lead to significant reductions in the overall fees paid at the second cycle, training and vocational institutions.

The statement said the Ministry of Education apologises for any misunderstanding and anxiety, which the earlier announcement may have created.
