Winneba (C/R), Dec. 13, GNA - The Ministry of Education Youth and Sports has since January 2004 distributed teaching and learning materials and other items worth several millions of cedis through the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to schools in the district to promote education in the area. The materials included 100 dual desks, a large quantity of chalks, 40 cupboard, 20 teachers' tables and chairs, school buildings and school uniform for needy but brilliant pupils.
The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Director of Education, Mr. Swanzy Essien, said this when he received 29,658 Note One exercise books from the Ministry.
The District Chief Executive for the area, Captain Steve Kwamena Armah, who handed over the books on behalf of the Ministry, said the books should be distributed to the children free of charge. Captain Armah said the consignment formed part of the 69,000 exercise books the Ministry intended to give to needy children in the District.
Mr. Essien, who received the books thanked the Ministry for the assistance and urged heads of beneficiaries' schools to take good care of the books.
