Accra, Aug. 5, GNA - The Ministry of Education intends to adopt and begin implementing the Education Strategic Plan (ESP) 2010-2020 as its policy document over the next 10 years.
In line with its programme, the Ministry, based on analytical work, would take over the plan in efforts towards achieving government's Better Ghana Agenda.
Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education, announced this when addressing the closing session of the 2010 Education Sector Review Meeting in Accra on Thursday.
The three-day meeting that was attended by Directors of Education, Parliamentarians and development partners was to assess the education sector's performance by placing emphasis on the implementation, challenges and clear cut strategy to implement the ESP.
It was on: "Revitalising Education for a Better Ghana" and sought to improve education and expand Technical and Vocational Education and Training and broadband for Information and Communication Technology.
Mr Tettey-Enyo said the Ministry aimed at implementing long-term human resource development policy that was linked to clear-cut government economic policy.
He said the Ministry would define the needs of the employment market to aid and guide the education sector to meet the demands of the job market.
Mr Tettey-Enyo said the Ministry would ensure that Ghanaians have access to good quality education to improve the country's human resource base.
"Indeed, government is aware of the prevailing issues of inadequate school infrastructure, especially at the Senior High School (SHS) level to accommodate the growing populations of entrance into the nation's second cycle schools."
Mr Tettey-Enyo explained that government had intervened this year and already awarded on contract more than 500 school infrastructure across the country.
He said that government had started making provision for schools under trees as well as some primary school infrastructure in the most deprived areas.
Mr Tettey-Enyo said government would continue to support the process of upgrading some selected SHS as well as tertiary institutions in the country with facilities to ensure increase to access and quality delivery.
