An Economist, Dr. Nii "I-man" Moi Thompson has said that the additional portfolio of modernizing the capital is a waste of resources.
In his analysis on a local radio station, JoyFM, Dr Thompson who described the Ministry of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City as irrelevant said it could be gotten rid of.
?We do not need additional ministry, and the president needs to focus on the number of ministers he has now?, he said.
He explained that the ministry is redundant because there is nothing-new except that the entire country needs modernization and not only the capital.
Dr Thompson, said there are existing institutions such as the AMA who are mandated to do that saying that the ministry could be fit into Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Some of the changes that have emerged in the President?s choices have resulted in the creation of new portfolios including one in charge of aviation and another for Road Transport.
The President?s press secretary Kwabena Agyepong explained that the Ministry of Roads and Transport which is a wide area and that is why it was Ports Harbours and Railway were separated from the ministry.
He said issue of aviation lies with the presidency due to the reconfiguration of Ghana Airways and restructuring of Ghana Civil Aviation.
The President?s choice of ministers continues to draw varying comments as analysts try to put the job of nominated officials in perspective based on their achievements in the 1st term of the NPP and how their experience will bear on the next 4-year term under Mr. Kufuor.
The switching of jobs between former finance minister Yaw Osafo Maafo and former Education, Youth and Sports Minister Kwadwo Baah Wiredu continues to draw the most comment because analysts feel their role change was really unnecessary. Yet others argue it was just perfect.
