Akrade (E/R), June 5, GNA- The Headmaster of Akwamuman Secondary School, Mr Felix Essah-Hienno, has appealed to the Minister of Education and Sports and the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to find early solution to the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) strike.
He said teaching going on in the secondary schools without the participation of NAGRAT members was ineffective because non-NAGRAT teaching staff constituted a small number of the teachers. Mr Essah-Hienno made the appeal at the Second Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the National Association of Teachers(GNAT) at Akrade on Thursday.
He said the decision that retired teachers and Reverend Ministers would be employed to take the place of the striking teachers could create professional crisis for the teaching profession in the country.
Mr Essah-Hienno, who described the decision as "unpractical", questioned when the "new teachers" would be engaged, given appointment letters, report to the schools where they were to teach and collect syllabus to prepare and start work.
He said the students were scheduled to start their examinations by the first week of July and lamented that the current final year students were being made to suffer "another stress in their educational carrier, having had their whole examinations cancelled at the Basic School Certificate Examination some three years ago."
