Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has expressed dissatisfaction with President John Dramani Mahama’s approach to his ministerial appointments, describing it as “tot-tot.”
This criticism came after the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, announced the President’s nomination of three ministerial-designates for vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament. The nominated ministers included Dr. Cassiel Atoms Baah Forson as Finance Minister-designate, John Abdulai Jinapor as Energy Minister-designate, and Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate.
Afenyo-Markin argued that a government committed to delivering a “24-hour economy” should have a comprehensive list of ministerial appointments ready, rather than making piecemeal nominations.
The Minority Leader said this approach could delay critical governance processes and create uncertainty in key sectors. “…Mr. Speaker, this ‘tot-tot-tot-tot’ appointment is unacceptable,” he said.
He emphasized that the government promised a “24-hour economy” while in opposition and claimed to be ready for government.
The Minority Leader’s criticism highlighted the need for a more comprehensive and efficient approach to ministerial appointments, ensuring that the government could deliver on its promises and provide stability in key sectors.
