Accra, June 9, GNA- The Minority in Parliament on Thursday eulogised Mr Victor Lawrence Kwashie Selormey, a former deputy Minister of Finance, saying he was a loss to the entire nation. "A sad loss, not only to his family but to the National Democratic Congress and indeed the nation as a whole. His was a regrettable end to 30 years loyal public service."
Mr Alban Bagbin, the Minority Leader, who read the tribute to the house, paid detail to his personal achievements and employed few words on his political life. He was awarded a degree in Economics by the University of Ghana in 1970, had a Masters degree from the University of Wales, UK and abandoned his doctorate programme at the London School of Economics due to financial problems.
According to the Minority Leader, Mr Selormey's association with NDC started when his party, the National Convention Party (NCP) in 1992, formed an alliance with the party he was to serve for rest of his life. "Shortly after leaving office in 2000, his loyal, honest and dedicated service to his country were impugned and he suffered the ignominy of imprisonment. "A situation that was to have a devastating bearing on his rather precarious heart condition." The Minority Leader described him as an attractive and supportive husband and father adding: "he loved his children and nothing they wanted was ever too much for him."
Mr Selormey was born on Sunday 8 December 1946 and died 59 years later shortly after receiving pardon that cut short his prison term. He was sentenced for causing financial loss to the State and was still expected to answer other charges on corruption.
