Minsiter Orders Water Corporation To Streamline Connection Procedure

Mon, 22 Sep 1997 Source: --

Tanoso (Brong Ahafo), 17 Sept.,

Tanoso (Brong Ahafo), 17 Sept., Mr Isaac Adjei-Mensah, Minister of Works and Housing has called on the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation (GWSC) to streamline its connection procedure to encourage customers to legally connect water to their homes and work places. He said not only do the public perceive the present procedure as cumbersome but they also believe it is riddled with fraudulence and exploitation. Mr Adjei-Mensah made the call when he visited the Tanoso Headworks in the Techiman District as part of his tour of selected water projects in the Brong Ahafo Region yesterday. The Minister said a town like Techiman was expanding rapidly and it is important that the corporation periodically undertakes surveys to identify potential customers and quickly assisted them. He said if the corporation is able to provide timely assistance to customers seeking connections, people will be discouraged from illegally tapping water from its mains. The District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Gyarko suggested that in view of staffing constraints the corporation should consider sub- contracting extension of distributing lines in rapidly expanding towns to private but accredited plumbers.
