A teacher at Atakora D/A Basic School in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District, who was declared missing earlier this month, has been found dead.
The deceased, identified as Joseph Atsu Gbeku, went missing on 11 September 2026 after returning home from school.
According to family sources, Gbeku informed his wife that he was stepping out to buy a few items in town, but failed to return home that evening.
Alarmed by his sudden disappearance, the family reported the matter to the police, prompting joint search efforts by community members and law enforcement officers.
A breakthrough in the search occurred when a local commercial motorbike rider, popularly known as an Okada rider, disclosed that he had transported the teacher to Koranteng, a neighbouring village, on the day he vanished.
Following days of intensive searches across the surrounding areas, search parties discovered Gbeku’s lifeless, naked body in a nearby bush, bearing a deep cut on his right hand.
The body has been deposited at the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital morgue for autopsy, while police in the district have launched investigations to determine the cause of death.
