Missing woman’s body exhumed

The police have exhumed the body of a 49-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered and secretly buried on a farm land near River Densu at Jome Agbozome, in the Ga Central Municipality.

The deceased, identified as Esi Brukuwaa, a mother of three, was declared missing on June 18, 2015 by her children.

Three persons, including Simon Larri, 33, husband of the deceased, have been arrested by the Anyaa police in connection with the case.

The others are Daniel Aidoo, 33, the farm manager and Richard Annan-fio, 57, owner of the said farm.

They are currently assisting the police to investigate the matter.

Background

Giving an account of what happened to DAILY GUIDE at the farm during the exhumation exercise, Mary Obeng, 40, junior sister of the deceased, narrated that suspect Simon Larri had been married to the deceased for the past seven years and they have a six-year-old boy.

They were all living at Kwahu Praso in the Eastern Region before they relocated to Accra in April this year.

She said, Larri was then employed by Annan-fio, the land owner, to partner Aidoo to manage his Volcanga African Plant farm near the river bank.

Suspect Annan-fio, gave them one of his apartments close to the river, while they worked on the farm.

In June this year, Larri allegedly sent the wife, Brukuwaa, to Joma, which is very far from the farm, to get him some cigarettes.

The woman, who is noted to be a drunkard, according to Mary Obeng, came to the town, but forgot to buy the cigarette for the husband.

On reaching home, Larri became infuriated and was said to have brutally assaulted the wife, using the back of a machete.

Not satisfied, the aggrieved sister claimed, Larri again removed the victim’s trousers she was wearing to tie her neck after which he drugged her on the floor to their room.

In the room, Larri again allegedly gave the wife some beatings before finally leaving her.

“The following morning, I heard nothing from the couple until Felix, the son, called via telephone to report that the mum was missing after visiting the farm,” she claimed, adding that inspection of the room led to the discovery of blood stains on the mattress.

The matter was immediately reported to the Anyaa police for investigation.

Police Information

Meanwhile, DSP Christian Kpordje, Anyaa District Police Commander, who led a pathologist to the site to exhume the body, told DAILY GUIDE that police received information of the disappearance of the woman on June 19, 2015.

The police, he said, upon discovering several blood stains on the mattress of the couple first suspected the husband – Larri.

Larri, who at that time was at Kwahu Praso, was immediately apprehended to assist in the investigation.

Upon interrogations, Larri told the police that he left the wife in the house and travelled to Kwahu Praso, the hometown of the wife to report to the parents about her drunkenness.

While in custody assisting in investigations, suspect Daniel Aidoo rushed to the police station to report that he knew about the death of the woman.

According to Aidoo, he witnessed Larri assaulting the wife that evening, leading to her death.

The other suspects were apprehended upon investigations.

The Pathology’s Comments

Dr Robert Kumoji, a pathologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, who was at the scene to conduct a test on the body, told this paper that his unit received an exhumation order from the court to carry out a test to determined whether the mortal remains exhumed were human’s and establish the cause of death.

He said the body had been exhumed, but they were yet to carry out additional test to determine the cause of death which would later be sent to the court to aid in the trial of the suspects.
