Sunyani, April 17, GNA- An angry mob at Chiraa, near Sunyani on Thursday besieged the town's police station to demand the release of pastor Richard Nti Boahen, founder of Fountain Fire Chapel, who was falsely accused of burying a human being at the premises of the Church. Superintendent Charles Botwe, Sunyani Municipal Police Commander, confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), on Thursday. He said the police had information at the matter at about 0900 hours on Thursday that the crowd had attacked Pastor Boahen, at the Church premises with stones and other offensive weapons.

Superintendent Botwe said the police rushed to the scene and whisked the pastor to the police station but the mob followed to the station and requested his release. The Municipal Police Commander said when the police exhumed what was initially believed to be a corpse they found a dead puppy. Superintendent Botwe said Pastor Boahen told the police that he used the puppy to perform rituals for Nii Tagoe, member of the Church but was not aware Tagoe buried the animal at the Church premises. The Municipal Police Commander said the police put the situation under control but some people still wanted to catch a glimpse of the pastor.

Superintendent Botwe said Pastor Boahen would be released without being charge for any offence and gave the assurance that he would be protected from any attack. The Municipal Police Commander advised people to desist from taking the law into their hands but to report any suspected case to the police.
