Tema, Oct. 22, GNA - The Minister of Interior, Mr Hackman Owusu Agyeman, has asked the youth to always be guided by the principles of peace and love to ensure a better development of the nation. He said without peace in the country, there cannot be any meaningful development and added that, "peace should not only be by word of mouth but comes from our heart and be reflected in everything that we do".

The Minister gave the advice in a speech read on his behalf during a United Nations mock General Assembly organised by Chemu Secondary School at Tema to celebrate the 59th year of the United Nations, which falls on the October 24, this year.

He said religions recognise peace as fundamental in their doctrines therefore, it was necessary to allow peace "to be part and parcel of the way we live".

He commended the school authorities for organising such a programme, which would go along way to give the students an insight into some of the issues deliberated on by the outside world and also enrich their perspective of the world.

Mr Owusu Agyeman reminded the students that they could always achieve more with words, which promote peace and love so that as future leaders of this country, their approach to the Mock Assembly would reflect how they would govern the country in the future. In a speech read on his behalf the UNDP Resident Representative, Mr Alfred Salia Fawundu, stated that the UN does not represent any particular national or commercial interest and does not make laws but provides the means to help resolve international conflicts and formulate policies on matters affecting all.

He advised the students to learn hard and exhibit high moral standards in all their endeavours, so that they could become good future leaders like the UN Secretary General, Mr Kofi Annan, for a greater pride of their country.

As part of the programme, a plague in honour of Mr Kofi Annan was unveiled by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Interior, Mr Edwin Barnes, whiles the Parent-Teacher-Association of the school presented a 50-seater Benz bus, valued at 300 million cedis to the school. 22 Oct. 04
